Distance Learning Degrees Are Widely Available

October 5, 2009

Attending college for some was a dream that they could never realize, up until now. For some reason in the past, they either couldn’t afford college, didn’t have a clue as to what they wanted out of a career, or didn’t have the grade point average required to get into college. Thankfully though, the Internet has changed all that. Now, distance learning degrees are accepted just the same as a conventional degree.

In many cases, teenagers and young adults have a difficult time deciding on their career. For whatever reason, many of them do not want to commit at that particular time. Unfortunately, for many of those young adults, entering the workforce at that young age and of keeping them there for life, and never realizing their dreams.

However, today thanks to the Internet, much of that has changed. Anyone who does want to have a career can do so by earning an online degree. They no longer have to quit their jobs in order to do so. At their own pace, they can complete their courses, studying whenever they have the chance.

Furthermore, there are all kinds of careers available to choose from, where you can educate yourself from home. But, you are not going to do this on your own. The courses are well-planned and structured and have professors and trained staff to help you whenever you need it.

A good majority of the best universities actually have programs that are designed for online education and offer degrees. This is an indication of how good these programs really are, otherwise these top universities would never offer them. The truth is that all learning institutions will be going that route in the near future, because it is a trend that is working and that is in demand.

Of course, the costs of earning an online degree are much lower than the conventional method. This is due to the fact that online courses do not require a professor for each course, there is no classroom maintenance required and all the materials are digital. Educating students in a conventional institution is very costly, as the grounds need to be maintained, the taxes on property must be paid, etc. All those costs are nonexistent in this type of scenario.

With that said, you can follow your dreams without changing much in your current lifestyle. You can continue working in order to keep up with your financial responsibilities and living expenses, while “attending” college. Not only can further your education in your current career, you can start a whole new career that could change your entire life.

Online Cheating a Big Problem?

One of the clouds appearing on the horizon for online universities is The College Opportunity and Affordability Act signed by President Bush late in 2008. This new law requires universities to authenticate test takers taking online courses through costly identification technology or with exam proctors.

The federal Education Department is expected to release guidelines for implementing this new law in the months ahead so the new law can be made effective later this year or early 2010. They say the “devil is in the details,” but on the surface this provision of the new law seems to provide uncertain benefits combined with certain increases in costs for online universities – and ultimately their students.
